G.H.G. Harparkash College Of Education For Women



G.H.G. Harparkash College of Education is situated in natural surroundings of village Sidhwan Khurd on Ludhiana -Ferozepur road at a distance of 30 km from Ludhiana. This college is well known center of rural women education and has become an icon of women education.

This group of institutes was initiated by a great visionary, Bhai Sahib Bhai Narain Singh Ji in 1909 i.e. 103 years ago. Bhai Sahib Bhai Narain Singh Ji, his wife Mata Ram Kaur Ji and his daughter Bibi Harparkash Kaur Ji devoted their entire lives for the sake of women’s education. An educational trust under the name of Sri Guru Hargobind Ujjagar Hari Trust, was established in 1934 and Bhai Sahib Bhai Narain Singh Ji became its first president. Bibi Harparkash Kaur became the president of the trust in 1950 after her parents passed away.

Khalsa College for Women and Basic Training College came into existence in 1950 and 1955 respectively. Bibi Harparkash Kaur steered the institutions ahead with a missionary zeal. To laud her spirit of dedication and the pioneer work done by her for the spread of women’s education in rural Punjab, she was awarded Padam Shri by the Govt. of India in the year 1960. Padam Shri Bibi Harparkash Kaur left for her eternal abode in 1965.

In her sacred memory the Training College was renamed after her as G.H.G.
Harparkash College of Education for Women in 1966. M.Ed. classes were started in 1969. Till date 13750 B.Ed. students and 685 M.Ed. students have successfully earned their degrees through this institution.
